Orange Coral and Cnidaria Anemone by Paul Pfurtscheller.
Author and illustrator was Prof. Dr. Paul Pfurtscheller. Pfurtscheller (1855 - 1927) produced a series of 39 Zoological Wall Plates to be used in higher education.
Although he was a modest high school teacher by training he gained recognition by the scientific community worldwide for this outstanding body of work.
The Pfurtscheller wall charts were first published in Vienna, Austria in 1902, by 'A.Pichler's Witwe & Sohn'. This piece was a later issue by Dutch company 'Martinus Nijhoff' from 1920s until 1953.
This collection is rare, sought-after and so exquisite that they are held by a number of natural history museums. The timeless series is remarkable for the scale of its pieces and the beauty of the illustrations.
This study is a large scale lithograph printed on paper, mounted on canvas and hung on chunky wooden hangers.
The chart is in good condition overall with bold colours, there are of course signs of wear and use commensurate with age including a stabilised tear towards the top.
Dimensions are W133cm x H148cm
