He was a contemporary of Ernst Haeckel and both studied newly discovered microscopic deep sea organisms as well as other fascinating aspects of the natural world.
Leuckart's work was beautifully presented on a larger format than most charts. Its level of detail and fascinating subject matter make these charts highly sought after and held by in museum collections.
